Either there's more than one brain in there, each one having different ideas of where they are, or the whole is utterly confused.

Yeah, Definitively this critter is made up of either one or multiple consciousnesses, trapped within this sessile body. Experiencing only confusion and constant pain. It's in a situation the narrator was in at the end of "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" being trapped in body incapable of killing itself and unable to properly sense space and time correctly.
