Update 2016

Posted by GrimJimmy - January 1st, 2016

 Happy New Year, everybody!

And by God, was 2015 pure chaos, with mind-numbing trends, superficial laws, more natural disasters, liturgical abuses/confusions, and just profanities unimaginable! (Sure, sing the National Anthem all you want, but looking back at 2015 without rose-colored glasses, wow, no wonder Russia hates America's guts.)

But anyway, on the platform of cartooning, I have both good news and bad news.

Good news, I've got a new laptop and video camera for Christmas, so maybe I can get started on some "how to draw" videos next week.

Bad news is the sudden loss of fans and decreasing of feedback that I couldn't help but notice. The Tri-Arty comic didn't go so well, due to either my inactivity, my ineptitudes in coloring with Photoshop, or both.

As for the possible fault of my inactivity, I'm sorry, but I can't come out with a new drawing as often as either of us wish. For one thing, I'm busy illustrating song covers for Tyler from Texas: http://tylerfromtexas.newgrounds.com/

Second, I have tons of ideas I can't wait to get out the door (like animated shorts, games, music, and maybe even "Arty" animated cartoons), but the problem is that I've got nobody! No animators, no voice actors, no assistant musicians, no programmers. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Kome ba!

I hate to jump to conclusions, but I probably never will find a creative "dream team" to get the gears turning, because most people on Newgrounds (or any site, actually) are too busy making room for animated "let's play"s, pointless collabs, parodies (define "parody"), fanfiction, hentai, and other wastes of time.

It shames me to say it, but whether I like it or not, I'm afraid my line of work will always be a party of one.

However, that's not going to stop me from drawing more cartoons for the number of fans that I currently have. Once I get everything in order for next week, I'll be submitting more than usual this month. More comics, jokes, sketches, some commentary here and there, and more of the usual "cutesies and creepies".

And eventually, I'll be starting a Q&A, so feel free to PM me any questions you may have. Ask me anything!

Until next time, have a nice day! :)

Comments

Hope you have a wonderful new years! And although I don't comment much, I do want to say I like your stuff and Arty is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole comic and read every page and it was an art delight (also super funny that the TV satellite was blown haha) . Don't be distraught that your viewers are low right now, keep at it and promote promote! The reason I like your stuff is because it’s original and funny and very genuine. It’s doing it own thing and has its own style too and that’s something to be proud of having. And I’m a firm believer that everyone has an audience for what they create, it’s just a matter of getting it out there and posting and building your world and your characters, so that when any newcomer comes upon it they say “What is this? And I want to know more about them!” The more they get attached to your characters the more they will engage with you and the more they will want to read about them (thus becoming fans). And don't give up on those other things like cartoons and games...a lot of things can be done if you put your mind to it and seek out other ways to achieve it; seems a bit too early to throw in the towel on the future when you're only just starting to grow! So yeah please keep up the good work, best wishes and happy new years, and I look forward to more Arty in 2016 :)
